Overview of services
Anxiety and depression can be debilitating and can cause disruption to everyday life. By exploring the underlying emotions and thought patterns that cause distress, obstacles can slowly be dismantled to create more effective ways to manage life.
You don't have to face it alone. I can help you to develop an understanding of the deep rooted thoughts underlying your responses to life events, relationships and feelings. Through increased self-awareness, you can increase emotional regulation and resilience.

Change is a natural part of life, yet ageing can bring challenges that feel difficult to face - stirring anxiety, fear, and even loneliness. How we engage with the ageing process can shape our relationship with ourselves and our sense of fulfilment.
Together, we can explore your experiences of change, reflect on what ageing means to you, and find ways to embrace this stage of life with greater acceptance. By shifting perspectives and making sense of the past, you can regain a sense of choice in the present - allowing you to live with more meaning, confidence and connection.

The physical and psychological changes that take place during this stage of a woman's life, can be stressful, confusing and overwhelming. It can also provide additional challenges when demands are being made by others such as colleagues, children, family and friends, as well as in caring roles.
I can help you navigate this difficult phase, to understand the roots of your feelings and build resilience to face what's to come. By creating a thinking space of your own, we can work together and begin untangling some of the complexity that surrounds your life, so that you take more control of what is happening to you.

Losing a loved one, or relationship, can bring about a myriad of contrasting feelings such as sadness and anger can be exhausting whilst trying to continue with day to day life. Loss can be difficult for anyone, whether it is recent or in the distant past and can have a profound effect on how we see the world, perceive future relationships, and stop us from experiencing the joy around us. It can also keep us in the past rather than looking forward.
By exploring we can work through your memories to understand where your responses to loss began. I can help you begin to find effective ways to grieve and embrace the future in a different way.

Trauma doesn't have to be one event - it can be a repetitive action or actions that gradually wears down your sense of self. Living with trauma can be devastating and can have a long lasting effect on how we see relationships, authority and ourselves. Often, it leaves us feeling punished, attacked or unable to tolerate any level of stress or conflict, because it is too painful. It can also result in working hard to maintain relationships, feelings of not being good enough or abandonment, and depression.

I can work with you at your own pace to think about the roots of your trauma and how your experiences impact your life now. We can identify what belongs to others and what belongs to you, and gain some relief from painful thoughts and memories. By finding meaning to painful experiences, we can forge a path to leading a more fulfilling life.

Relationships form the cornerstone of all we do, because we cannot survive without dealing with others. We can easily fall into patterns of behaviour that leave us depleted and frustrated. But when they become problematic and all-consuming, it's important to explore where our relationship blueprints come from and how we can improve the way we think about and manage them.

By exploring your earliest relationships with your caregivers, we can identify the imprints they have made and how they have impacted the way you relate to others. We can discover the external influences that play a part in how you feel about yourself and others, and how they can help or hinder connection. Gaining understanding can lead to developing healthy relationships that nourish, energise and improve your welbeing.

FAQs
Why is therapy useful?
Therapy provides a safe, comfortable space which puts you at the centre, so that you can feel seen, heard and believed by someone who isn't part of your day to day life. It gives you the freedom to say things that perhaps would be difficult to a family member, friend or colleague, without being judged or having fear of repercussions. By exploring aspects of yourself and increasing your self-awareness, you can gain insights that are meaningful in gaining control of your life and help to improve your wellbeing.

What is psychodynamic psychotherapy and how does it work?
This approach focuses on the exploration of what happens now and finding patterns that relate to what happened in the past. It aims to identify how your upbringing, relationships and external influences, shape and develop a blueprint of how you deal with day to day life and reducing the shadows of your past that have been following you into the present. This enables you to increase your self-awareness, identify what belongs to you or others, and makes meaning of your experiences so that you can have choice in how you move forward.

How much time does therapy take?
The length of time therapy takes overall depends on what is affecting you and what you want to gain out of therapy. Whether you want long or shorter-term therapy, it's important that sessions take place weekly which enables commitment to the process and for lasting change to take place. The assessment is an hour long and further sessions last 50 minutes each.

Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is crucial for this process as it requires you to be as open and honest as possible, and be in a space where what you say remains within the room, whether in-person or virtual. I am bound by the BACP Code of Ethics and maintain your information in accordance with GDPR standards.

What do I have to do to start therapy?
You can contact me to book a free initial telephone consultation (approx 15 minutes). We can arrange an assessment to gain some background to about you, your issues and how they affect you, your expectations of therapy and look at how we can work together. We can then arrange a convenient time for you to attend sessions on a weekly basis.

What is the first session like?
In our initial session, you may find yourself speaking cautiously, perhaps with moments of silence. This is entirely normal. My role is to attentively listen—to your words, silences, and everything in between. Through this process, we uncover the patterns and themes woven into the fabric of your past and present, revealing insights that can guide the way forward. While this process may initially evoke discomfort, rest assured that it is a natural part of the therapeutic process. As you become more familiar with our sessions, you'll find yourself increasingly at ease, allowing for deeper exploration and understanding.
